Sports Medicine
Care for the foot and ankle injuries that keep athletes — and everyone else — off their feet, shaped by years spent on the sideline.
What it is
Sports medicine covers the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of injuries related to athletic activity — sprains, stress fractures, tendon injuries, and the overuse problems that build up over a season rather than happen in a single moment. Dr. Feldman brings a sideline perspective to this work: he served as team physician for D.C. United and as medical liaison for George Washington University’s basketball, soccer, and gymnastics programs, along with time as a high school football team physician. Twenty-six years in private practice means he’s seen how these injuries actually play out, on and off the field.
Who it helps
This isn’t limited to elite athletes. Weekend runners, high schoolers, and anyone whose foot or ankle gets in the way of staying active can benefit from a sports medicine approach — one focused on getting you back to your sport or activity, not just resolving the immediate pain. That includes teenagers navigating a first serious injury and adults managing a nagging problem that flares up every time they train.
What to expect
Treatment starts conservatively where it can — rest, bracing, and physical therapy — and moves toward more advanced options, including PRP injection therapy and ultrasound-guided procedures, when a faster or more targeted approach is needed. Surgery is reserved for injuries that don’t respond to non-surgical care, and Dr. Feldman explains exactly why a given path makes sense for your injury and your goals, whether that’s a return to competition or simply walking without pain.
